Dr. Samantha Larkin

Veterinarian

Hi, I'm Dr. Samantha Larkin, an associate veterinarian at Sugar River Animal Hospital in Grantham, NH. I graduated from Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2023 after earning my Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Juniata College.

My journey in veterinary medicine began while working as a veterinary assistant at Rock Spring Veterinary Clinic and during an externship in London, England, where I gained valuable hands-on experience in surgery and patient care. I also had the opportunity to complete a rotation at the Indianapolis Zoo, where I worked alongside veterinarians treating a wide variety of species. I joined the Sugar River Animal Hospital team in 2023, and I've loved every day of being a part of a team that values both pets and the people who love them.

Why I Chose This Profession

I chose this profession because I wanted to help both people and their animals. The bond we share with our pets is incredibly important, and I wanted to dedicate myself and my career to preserving that bond for as long as possible.

I also enjoy teaching and sharing knowledge with clients to help them keep their pets healthy and happy, so becoming a veterinarian was a natural fit.

My Favorite Part of My Job

There are so many different aspects of veterinary medicine and my job that I love, including preventive and wellness care, surgery, and behavior. I especially appreciate the variety in this field — no two days are ever the same. Animals always find new ways to keep us on our toes, which often requires creativity and flexibility to solve. I also love working to make pets more comfortable in the clinic. Every animal is unique, and it's rewarding to figure out what helps each one feel safe during exams and procedures. This is one of the many reasons why I chose to become fear-free certified.

Personal Hobbies and Interests

When I'm not in the clinic, I enjoy biking, hiking, and spending time outdoors. I also love cross stitching, reading, playing board games with friends and family, and spending time with my two guinea pigs, Rufus and Pudge.
